38 – Swamp Thing (1990) – “The Emerald Heart” w/ Stefan Halley

Before DC Universe launches their new Swamp Thing, we’re taking a look at the first episode of the 1990 live action series that aired on USA! This episode features one of the best scenes in TV history.

In 1990, after the success of the two Swamp Thing movies, actor and stuntman Dick Durock took up the mantle again for three seasons on USA. Mark Lindsay Chapman took over the role of Dr. Anton Arcane and the two battled each other in the swamp along with a spare kid Jim and a bunch of mutants in nonsensical plots.

31 – Heat Vision and Jack (1999) (w/ Patrick Woodall)

It starred Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller and it never aired: we’re talking about 1999’s Heat Vision and Jack! Guest starring Patrick Woodall (@endlesspat) from Adam Ruins Everything!

In 1999, Fox ordered a pilot from Rob Schrab and Dan Harmon, starring Jack Black and Owen Wilson. The show was a parody of 1970’s action shows like Six Million Dollar Man, where Jack Black played Jack Austin, a NASA astronaut who was exposed to solar radiation and became a genius, while his best friend Doug (Owen Wilson) was merged with his motorcycle. The two traveled America solving paranormal crimes.

27 – Bosom Buddies (1980) (w/ Esther Dee)

We’re joined by Esther to talk about the cross-dressing sitcom Bosom Buddies, starring Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari!

In 1980, ABC commissioned a new show starring up-and-coming actor Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari, about a couple of young ad execs who, after losing their apartment, are forced to dress as women to move into a women’s hotel. Despite a great theme song from Billy Joel, the show only lasted two years.

About Charmed (2018)

CBS tried to reboot Charmed in 2013, but the script never got filmed. However, in 2018 the CW network decided to go ahead with a new pilot that would air 20 years to the day after the original series. The new series is set in a new fictional town and focuses on women of color with a heavy focus on feminism. The reboot has been met with much skepticism from the original show’s cast.

If you want to watch Star Trek’s “The Cage,” you can watch it on Netflix or Dailymotion:

About Star Trek (1965)

In 1965, NBC ordered a pilot for a new series called Star Trek with a pilot called “The Cage.” It had a cast that was almost entirely different than the series we all know, other than Leonard Nimoy and Majel Barrett. The pilot was considered too cerebral and didn’t have enough action, so NBC never aired it, opting to order a new pilot which would star the familiar original series cast with William Shatner, DeForrest Kelley, Leonard Nimoy, Walter Koenig and George Takei.

2 – Cop Rock

Marc, Dustin, and Stefan Halley discuss the Cop Rock pilot from 1990, one of the worst received TV pilots of all time.

To watch the Cop Rock pilot, you can watch it on YouTube for free here

About Cop Rock

In 1987, ABC gave Steven Bochco (Hillstreet Blues, Doogie Howser) a 10-episode deal because he could do no wrong. But it turns out he could.

After a failed attempt to turn Hillstreet into a Broadway musical, we got Cop Rock: a hybrid police drama and wacky musical that is somehow neither. The show ran for 11 episodes before being canceled.
